I found this great set of slides from a presentation by Kate Davis at the fifth new librarians symposium in Perth. It sums up web 2.0 and its effect on libraries staff. She says....Information Communications Technology (ICT) is core business for libraries. Every day, libraries deliver ICT services to their customers, in the form of public access computers, wireless Internet connectivity and technology training programs. We increasingly rely on the Internet and the World Wide Web as a core service and collection delivery channel. And ICT is the single most important set of tools in allowing us to carry out ‘traditional’ library functions such as collection management and circulation.
For me I find it endlessly exciting as I discover the many different ways I can use technology in my children's services area. Kids today relate to technology so well that you are almost garanteed instant attention when I implement a program using technology such as flickr slide show or movie maker.
